Over 800 riders are already registered for the 2010 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships which are set to get underway next week in Louisville, Ky. Cyclists, age 30 and above, will duke it out for the more than 60 national titles on the line in the road race, criterium, and time trial events.
The worldandrsquo;s best BMX athletes converge on Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, this week for the 2010 UCI BMX World Championships (July 29th andndash; August 1st). In total, 1,100 riders from 37 countries will fight it out in the Elite and age-group competitions, including over 80 Americans.
Mara Abbott and Rory Sutherland won the women\'s and men\'s general classifications at the Cascade Cycling Classic last week in Bend, Ore. Abbott\'s victory moved her into third place overall in the 2010 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar women\'s overall standings, while Sutherland took over the No. 2 spot on the men\'s side. The men\'s NRC continues this weekend with the Tour of Elk Grove.
The past week was a good one for USA Cycling\'s young riders as Benjamin Swedberg, Colt Peterson, and Coryn Rivera all found themselves on podiums around the world. Additionally, the U.S. is presently ranked number-one in the UCI\'s Junior Nations Cup rankings.
Willow Koerber finished third in the women\'s cross-country race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in the Alpine resort town of Champandeacute;ry, Switzerland.
Time is running out to register early and at a discount for the 2010 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships. Online registration closes Tuesday, July 27 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. All eligible Masters riders are invited to take part August 3-8 in Louisville, Kentucky.
USADA announced today that the independent American Arbitration Association/Court of Arbitration for Sport (AAA/CAS) has issued a written decision that Alberto Blanco, an athlete in the sport of cycling, committed a doping violation and will receive a two-year suspension for the offense.
USA Cycling\'s development programs are in full swing on the road. Riding for USA Cycling\'s Women\'s Development Team, Kendall Ryan was sevent in Italy\'s GP Cento over the weekend. As a member of the national governing body\'s U23 Development Program squad, Larry Warbasse posted an impressive 39th-place out of the 145 riders entered int he De Drie Zustersteden. The juniors are staying busy as well with USA Cycling\'s Junior Development Program squad joining thirteen other American teams for the LE Tour de l\'Abitibit in Canada this week.
The remaining schedules for the 2010 Professional Tour and National Racing Calendar -- the premier racing series for cycling in the United States -- have been adjusted to reflect changes in the status of several events.
Todd Wells and Georgia Gould secured the men\'s and women\'s overall titles in the USA Cycling Professional Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour (Pro XCT) during the Sand Creek International Classic in Colorado Springs. Wells and Gould both traveled to Granby, Colo., the following week and won Stars-and-Stripes jerseys at the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships.
